Description
In the early 1900's, one of my great-great grandmothers lost her vision in her 30's. My grandmother would tell us that everyone referred to her as a ''witch.'' There were many stories about how "she knew things no one else did." Isn't it interesting how we now know that the other senses become much stronger when one has lost one to try to compensate for the loss. If you walk around with your eyes closed, you use your hands to feel objects. You use your other senses to guide you. Your inner sense becomes stronger in order to survive. I believe we all possess a sense of inner knowing. It is a guidance within us that we sometimes do not listen to because we want what we want to be true. Part of my growing up in a strict Italian household involved my Dad wanting to meet everyone that my sister and I were dating. He would sometimes say, ''There is something not right in my gut with that one.'' Did we listen? Of course not. We often had to find out on our own. How many times do we say, "If I had only listened to the red flags."
This is a pastel on paper with pastel pencils and charcoal.

Dear Laurie, Today, the EYES (Collection) have it!...Such a mesmerizing, emotive, series! Taking a deep GAZE.... my Dear Aunt Jill Had a similar gift...she was befriended by a blind man at work and she spent countless hours helping him ...SEE...she, too was called a “witch” by my cousin's then fiancé who, on meeting her was unsettled when she said, yes I know you...and pulled out a newspaper article of HIM being celebrated several years earlier. He always felt uncomfortable beneath her gaze...with Good reason...one was always nude before Aunty...she saw it all...your joy, pain, lies, truth, But did not judge. From her I learned kindness and mystical pursuit.

Thank you, Dear Laurel for visiting my Eyes Collection. Thank you for your kind words and support of my art. It sounds like your Aunt Jill's third eye was very active...she saw beyond what our eyes see. She sounds very special to you. Thank you for sharing your similarities with me dear friend! I am so enjoying your visits.
